Sing

This may sounds weird, but it can help.  The first couple of times that you do this, it probably won’t make a difference.  After a while, though, your child will be able to follow along with the song in their head and recognize how much longer they need to brush their teeth.  Make sure to pick a song that isn’t too short or long.

Position Them in Front of the Mirror

If your child is still at the age that you’re brushing their teeth for them, you should make sure that they’re able to see themselves in the mirror.  You may need to get a step stool, but it will allow them to see you brushing their teeth, rather just experiencing uncomfortable feelings.  When they are able to watch, it will also help them when it comes time for them to do it themselves.

Set a Good Example

Most children will follow the lead of their parents.  If you’re not responsible with your oral hygiene routine, they probably won’t be either.  You can start a routine of brushing your teeth together every morning and night.

Give Warnings

If a kid really doesn’t like brushing their teeth, they’ll try to avoid it as much as possible.  Rather than telling them when it’s time to brush their teeth, try to give them little warnings beforehand to get them in the right state of mind.  Depending on their age and how much they hate brushing their teeth, you can give them 1 to 3 warnings beforehand.

These tips aren’t going to change your daily routine, they’re just going to help your child get accustomed to brushing their teeth.  In addition to brushing their teeth, make sure to take them to the best kids dentistry in Glen Rock every 6 months for a check-up.
